How to Calculate Your Weighted Grade
Most courses don't treat every assignment equally. A final exam might count for 30% of your grade while weekly quizzes count for 10%. A weighted grade calculator combines each score according to its weight, so you see where you really stand.
The weighted grade formula
Multiply each score by its weight, add the results, and divide by the total weight. With the example values above: (85×20 + 78×30 + 92×20 + 88×10) ÷ 80 = 6,760 ÷ 80 = 84.5%.
How to use this calculator
- Enter each assignment, quiz or exam as an item, with your score in % and its weight in % from the course syllabus.
- Set the weight to 0 for any rows you don't need.
- Read your weighted grade, letter grade and GPA points.
- Optionally enter the grade you want and the weight of your final exam to see the score you need.
What score do I need on the final?
If your current grade is G, the final is worth F% of the course and you want an overall grade T, the score you need is:
For example, with a current grade of 84.5%, a final worth 20% and a target of 85%, you need (85 − 84.5 × 0.8) ÷ 0.2 = 87% on the final. If the result is above 100%, the target can't be reached with the final alone; if it's 0% or less, you've already secured it.

This is a widely used US-style scale. Schools and countries use different scales, so always check your institution's grading policy.
